LP gas installation, alteration, leak testing and Certificates of Conformity, issued by an installer registered with SAQCC Gas, as the law requires.
Only a registered installer can issue a valid certificate.
An LP gas Certificate of Conformity may only be issued by an installer holding the relevant registration from the South African Qualification and Certification Committee for Gas (SAQCC Gas). A certificate from anyone else is not worth the paper, and that becomes very expensive at exactly the wrong moment, when an insurer assesses a claim or a conveyancer holds up a transfer.
The requirement sits under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Pressure Equipment Regulations, with installation work carried out to the SANS 10087 series: SANS 10087-1 for handling and storage, and SANS 10087-7 for domestic installations. In practice that governs everything from cylinder location and separation distances to ventilation, pipe routing, materials and appliance clearances.
We install, alter, repair, test and certify. Where we are called in to certify an existing installation, we test it honestly: if it does not comply we tell you what is wrong and what it takes to fix it, rather than signing something we would not stand behind.

How certification works
- InspectionThe full installation is inspected: cylinder location, separation, ventilation, piping, materials and appliance clearances.
- Soundness testThe installation is pressure tested for leaks and the result recorded against the standard.
- Defect reportIf it does not comply you get a written list of what fails and why, with a quote to correct it.
- Corrective workComponents, routing, ventilation or housing that do not comply are corrected to the SANS 10087 requirement.
- Certificate issuedOnce compliant, the Certificate of Conformity is issued in your name for insurers, conveyancers or the local authority.

Before you accept a gas certificate
Ask for the installer's SAQCC Gas registration number and check that it is current and covers the class of work. A Certificate of Conformity issued by an unregistered person is invalid, and the first time most people discover this is when an insurer declines a fire claim or a transfer is held up. The certificate should also reflect the installation as it actually exists. If it is later altered or extended, it needs to be certified again.
Common questions
Does a gas certificate expire?
The certificate reflects the installation at the date of issue. It is not open ended in practice: any alteration, extension or appliance change requires recertification, and conveyancers and insurers commonly want a recent one.
Do I need a CoC to sell my house?
If there is a fixed gas installation, a Certificate of Conformity is normally required as part of the transfer process. Your conveyancer will confirm what they need for that specific transaction.
Can you certify an installation someone else did?
Yes. We inspect and test it. If it complies we issue the certificate; if it does not, you get a written defect list and a quote, and the certificate follows once the work is corrected.
How long does an installation take?
A straightforward domestic hob or heater installation is usually a single day. Commercial kitchens and bulk installations are scheduled around the site and quoted individually.
